Important Note Page!

Welcome parents and students. I am a fifth-grade writing teacher here at Waterville. If you have any questions about writing, feel free to email me. Below is information about the writing program. If you want information about me, I have included a short article about my life in the BIO section. I also have a woodworking business, so you may see a few of my projects in the photo album and in the link below.
Many people ask about my books. If you are interested in those, use the same link below. The links on the right are generally school-related.

Writing: Our school system is teaching a writing program called Self-Regulated Strategy Development. We call it SRSD for short. My students may see an essay with an SRSD score. That score is out of a total of 20 points. My students are given the rubric used for this scoring. These scores are not included in the grade book unless a percentage score is included with it. The students are doing very well with it. A low score on the SRSD scale does not necessarily mean your child is failing writing class. These scores show how much more your child can improve in the writing process. Improvement is the goal. It is a process, and there is much more to learn.
I am teaching my students to write five-paragraph essays with one opening paragraph, three body paragraphs, and one concluding paragraph. These essays are based on weekly prompts that test my students' knowledge and comprehension of the weekly reading story and their writing ability.
Please check out the SRSD link on the right for more information.   >>>
